O2 PROVIDE ITS TEAM WITH NOL CARDS TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO USE DUBAI METRO

We’ve seen the construction of the Metro for nearly two years now and these days it looks like things are finally on track for the Dubai Metro to open as planned on September 9th 2009. Whilst not all the stations will be open, just 10 out of 29, it seems that the people of Dubai are more than ready for the new Metro. With busy roads, traffic and expensive taxi rides, the Metro will offer an affordable alternative for Dubai’s many commuters. As ‘Nol’ cards now go on sale it will be interesting to see just how many the RTA will sell. Whilst the Metro offers a quick and cheap journey, the logistics will eventually determine how many people use the Metro. Issues such as; how often will it run and what times will it start and finish and what are the parking facilities like near the station will play a key role in its success. What we do know however is that the fare for the Dubai Metro is the second cheapest in the world, second to the Metro in Tehran. With prices ranging from AED 1.8 to 6.5 AED for a single journey, it certainly is affordable for everyone. In addition, as the fare is valid for trains, public buses and water buses it is also extremely convenient. For families with kids, the fact that children under the age of five travel for free is just another good reason to travel by Metro when it opens in several weeks time. With a Metro station situated right outside the O2 Office in Dubai, O2 recently purchased Nol cards for all its employees, in an attempt to encourage them to make use of the Metro and leave their cars behind.
