TV SERIES – HAVE LOST AND PRISON BREAK LOST IT?

When an ad for a new TV series begins it is generally the talk of the town. The new ad is generally action packed or very funny and totally gripping. By the time the new series actually begins, viewers are generally hooked, or they fall under one of the following categories; love it or hate it. Fast forward to the end of a new series and if the season has been successful there will no doubt be a series two. However, as we all know, just because season one is a success does not generally mean that the sequel will be as good. Take the series ‘Lost’ for example, when Lost first came out it was totally gripping but by series two surveys and blogs revealed that it was boring and viewers were losing interest. However, Prison Break on the other hand has been more successful with more suspense and more excitement. In one report, it was stated that Prison Break was TV com’s highest rated show, whereas Lost was rated #58. In terms of awards, Prison Break was also the winner at the 32nd Annual People’s choice award’s Favourite New Drama. So, has lost really lost it? Perhaps, but that really does depend on whether the script writers can inject enough life into the next series to bring back existing viewers and increase its audience.
